Height Gage for cutting tools

This is the first tool I made after beginning my machining efforts in 1998.  It was simple to construct and has served me well over the years even though it has experienced some rough handling.

One important aspect of the design is to have the lower surface of the  measuring arm parallel to the tool bit.

Brass was used to make the base and measuring arm.

Below, another height gage design is introduced.  This design is inherently rugged, has no adjustments and is precisely machined to suit your lathe.
