This carriage stopper is used to precisely set a travel limit (end point) for the carriage during manual operation of the carriage.  It can be positioned at any place on the ways and clamped in place with the black knob.  The stopper-bar provides for fine adjust. 

A dial indicator can be attached instead of the stopper bar.
